Location

Located at the southernmost part of Gangwon Province, Samcheok serves as the hub city of industrial, educational, cultural and tourism sectors. The city borders the sea to the east, Donghae to the north, Jeongseon and Taebaek to the west and Uljin-gun of North Gyeongsan Province to the south. Wolcheon-ri, Wondeok-eup is the eastern end (129°21′58″E) and Gongjeon-ri, Hajang-myeon is the western end (128°57′01″E) with the city measuring 45.75 km from east to west. Pungok-ri, Gagok-myeon (37°02′10″N) is the southern end and Jeungsan, Gyo-dong is the northern end (37°28′26″N) with the north-to-south distance of 48.60 km.
